Cedar closets in both bedrooms and even a dressed up cedar wall going to the basement w/its drive under garage. Propane HWBB heat and on demand hot water will make this a very efficient home. 3.5 acres of land, about a half hour each from Calais and Machias, and an hour and a half to Bangor.
With a population of about 122, the town of Wesley may be small, but it’s large in land size at 50.64 square miles with only 2 main roads passing through. (Rt 9 and Rt 192) The Airline and Jr Williams Road. We have more stop signs on 4-wheeler trails here than main roads. Wesley was incorporated January 24th, 1833, and named for John Wesley who was the leader of the English Methodist Movement.
The area is rich in history with the "Airline" being an old stage route running from Bangor to Calais, it was also called the Wolf Route due to a famous tin type photo put out to try and get people to be afraid to run Rt 9 due to wolfs attacking the stage, this was done from people with businesses on the coastal route to try and keep the early traffic coming that way.
Wesley is well known for its wild blueberries and the production of those in August comes before everything else. It's a fast moving quick season and it’s all about the berries! The area was well known for its logging history, there were many woods camps for that along with sawmills and river drives on the Machias River. There were books written about some of the local legendary hunters and poachers as well, such as Wilber Day and George Magoon. The town has a wonderful little historical society based in the old Wesley Corner School on Rt 9.
